“50 Years of Wild Nevada” Artown Exhibition

2014 APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Friends of Nevada Wilderness is currently accepting submissions for the 2014 Artown “50 Years of Wild Nevada” Group Exhibition. This exhibit is open to Nevada artists only, both amateurs and professionals working in all mediums of art, including painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, mixed media, fabric and printmaking are welcome to submit. Artists are welcome to submit individually or as a collective. All submitted artworks MUST be original, created by the person/art collective who enters the competition. The theme for this group exhibition is wilderness so special attention will be given to innovative projects centering on the theme of wilderness in Nevada. However, general Nevada landscape art will be considered. The goal of this exhibition is to provide the community with art centered on Nevada in order to inspire them to get outside, explore, and preserve these special areas.

• Friends of Nevada Wilderness is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to caring for and preserving our wild lands. Our mission is to preserve all qualified Nevada public lands as wilderness, protect all present and potential wilderness from ongoing threats, educate the public about the values of and need for wilderness, and improve the management and restoration of wild lands.
• This is a for-sale exhibition. 20% of the art proceeds will go to Friends of Nevada Wilderness to support our stewardship and advocacy efforts throughout our state’s wild lands.REQUIREMENTS:

  -Artists can submit up to three (5) images. Image specifications are: Grayscale or RGB mode, 72 dpi, 1024 pixels on the longest side, JPEG format at maximum quality. The file name MUST follow this format: lastname-firstname-title.

  -Word Document listing the information below along with a thumbnail of the image for each submitted file:
  • Artist’s name
  • Title
  • Medium
  • Dimensions

• Wilderness area or location represented
  • Mounting (e.g. framed, self-standing, etc.)
  • Year produced
  • Price-Short artist statement

  -Short artist biography

• NAME OF APPLICANT & CONTACT INFORMATION: Applicants must provide a current address and a valid e-mail address. The e-mail address provided will be used to send out the final notification letter.
• Artists are responsible for matting and framing.FEES:
  $0

  DEADLINES:
  -Last day of submissions: Friday, June 20th, 2014
  -Participating artists will be notified: Thursday, June 26^th, 2014
  -Art must be received by: July 8th, 2014
  -Exhibition Dates: Saturday, July 12th through Thursday, July 31st, 2014
  -Collection of artwork that didn’t sell: Starting Monday, August 4th, 2014
  **Artwork left behind for a period of two (2) months after the collection of artwork deadline has passed will be kept as “artist donation” to Friends of Nevada Wilderness**

  DIRECTIONS AND DATES:
  The exhibition opening will take place Saturday, July 12^th at a special reception from 4pm-7pm. at Friends of Nevada Wilderness Headquarters, 1360 Greg St. Suite 111/112 Sparks, NV 89431.

Artists are encouraged to attend.
Gallery hours are 10am-4pm, M-F.
