About The Exhibit

At Odds End features a collection of paintings and drawings by Kathryn Carlson. The show’s title references the variable ‘odds and ends’ of the collection, which features art touching on a wide range of topics.

From the serious political nature of Flagellation: Corrective Rape to the deeply personal Illusions of Truth, a piece about suicidal contemplation, the artist explores the theory that suffering and tragedy can offer a sort of sublime beauty.

At the opposite end of the political and personal, the artist presents pieces like Antithesis and Antipathy, two satirical renderings that challenge postmodern dismissal of Academic art through ‘uglying up’ Bouguereau paintings.

Through drawing and painting, the artist presents a variable cornucopia of subjects that she believes offers a little something for every viewer.

About The Artist

Kathryn currently lives in the Reno area where she works full time as a digital artist. In 2012, she graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor’s of Fine Art. She has studied traditional drawing and painting techniques with artists Jackie Goodyear and Bart McCoy.
