Sierra Arts Foundation is proud to designate its 2013/2014 Arts in Education residencies in honor of long time Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation Board of Directors member Theodore A. Nigro. Ted championed arts in education efforts in Washoe County for over 20 years and the Sierra Arts residency program in schools began and was sustained as a result of his advocacy. Washoe County School District students at Bennett, Dunn, Echo Loder, Hidden Valley, Lincoln Park and Peavine Elementary Schools will become engaged and enriched through sequential arts education in visual arts, theater, music, dance and literary arts which address the Common Core State Standards.

Ted Nigro 2013/2014 Arts in Education Program funding is provided by the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation. The $70,000 contribution by the Orvis Foundation helps to send six local professional artists into elementary schools for year long residencies. Our Artist Educators work to engage students, teach deeply in their content areas, and infuse the arts across core curriculum.
