ART Inside Breast Cancer

Would you like to tell your breast cancer story through art? Your cancer story is important and can help to inspire others in whatever challenges they face. ART Inside Breast Cancer along with the Healing Arts Program at Renown and Sierra Arts Foundation are looking to help you tell your story and showcase your art as part of Breast Cancer Awareness in October.

If you or a loved one have been affected by breast cancer and would like to share your story through ART Inside Breast Cancer’s free drawing sessions at Sierra Arts Gallery stop in Tuesdays 9/17 & 9/24 from 10-12 or Wednesdays 9/18 & 9/25 from 6-8pm. “You are an artist, and perfect because of all of your imperfections,” says ART Inside Breast Cancer director, Sharon DeMattia. “That is true beauty and what creates connections between us all.”

The art and anonymous stories will be showcased at a Sierra Arts Gallery reception for breast cancer awareness on Saturday, October 5th at 7:30 pm. “Color My Recover” will be an event to give cancer stories a visual outlet. It will feature art and stories of patients and loved ones affected by breast cancer. There will be entertainment and refreshments. Cost for the reception is free though donations are gladly accepted to benefit the Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund at the Renown Institute for Cancer.

About the Healing Arts Program at Renown:

Renown Health believes so strongly in the healing power of the arts that it has created the Renown Healing Arts Program. Studies have shown that patients with vibrant surroundings recover three-quarters of a day faster and need fewer painkillers. Our program brings hope and joy to patients and their families and provides respite from an illness or injury. Whether it’s through a performance by a trio at a patient’s bedside, the sounds of the Reno Chamber Orchestra in the Tahoe Tower lobby, or a therapeutic art session for a child with cancer, the Healing Arts at Renown touches the lives of patients, their families and caregivers alike. The community recognizes the need for the Healing Arts and the impact they can make, and has generously supported the program. In fact, the Renown Healing Arts is fully funded by community support. Programs and performances are available at Renown Regional Medical Center, Renown Children’s Hospital, Renown South Meadows Medical Center, Renown Rehabilitation Hospital and Renown Assisted Living. For more information, please contact Renown Health Foundation at 775.982.5545 or www.Renown.org/healingarts.
