Teaching Artist Workshop

Sierra Arts will host two workshops for artists currently working in the schools and artists who would like to understand more about working as an artist in residence in schools and communities.  The workshops will begin with “Laying the Foundation: Defining Arts Integration”, as an introduction to arts integration.

In our workshop, participants will consider a residency’s purpose, examine options for design, and select and organize residency components. They leave the seminar having begun their own residency plan which includes an arts-integrated topic, rationale, a residency description, expected results, responsibilities of the teachers, and an overview of each class or session.

Through participation in a sample lesson, lively discussions, activities, and presentations, teaching artists improve their lessons to better facilitate student learning and teacher participation.

The first workshop will take place on Saturday, December 7 from 9:00am – 12:30pm at Sierra Arts Foundation. The instructors will be Mary Bennett, Producing Artistic Director of Brüka Theater and Martha O’Neill, Program Associate from SAF.
