Randall Reid Scholarship Recipient Announced

We’re so proud to announce the recipient of the Randall Reid Scholarship – Ms. Sarah Robinson!

About Sarah:
“I am an undergraduate Linguistics major at UNR, in my junior year. I became interested in Linguistics after my dad read ‘The Lord of the Rings’ to me when I was a child, and I became fascinated with the languages of Tolkien’s fictional world. I began writing fiction when I was in second grade and have wanted to be a writer ever since. At this time I have finished several short stories, the first of which was ‘The Iivonen Family Tattoo Parlor’, which I intend to expand into a full-length novel someday. I enjoy many different kinds of stories, and hope to write across genres without constraining myself to just one. I enjoy fantasy and science fiction but also contemporary realism and historical fiction. I grew up in Carson City and attended Carson High School until my junior year. I sought a GED and afterward enrolled at Western Nevada College until receiving an associate of arts degree, then transferred to UNR to pursue a bachelor’s in linguistics. After graduating I intend to go to graduate school and seek a PhD so I can someday teach at a post-secondary level. I am greatly honored and excited to have been awarded the Randall Reid scholarship and I look forward to another semester of hard work and study!”
