Sierra Arts Foundation Accepting Spring Internships

Programming Internship 

Sierra Arts Foundation (SAF) is seeking a spring intern to work, one day per-week, within scheduling and programming. Sierra Arts is the local arts agency for northern Nevada and northeastern California, dedicated to educating, nurturing, and supporting the arts through presenting cultural events, promoting best practices in arts education, advocating for art in public places, and developing other arts programs as needs arise in our community. We provide meaningful employment to artists, as they work with underserved populations including children, elders, adjudicated youth, and incarcerated adults. Sierra Arts leads our community in assessing the cultural needs of our region, and developing new programs that make this a better place in which to live.

Requirements: Applicants must be a junior or senior studying at either a college or university and have a strong interest in art, design, and arts administration. Experience with Microsoft office and Adobe Creative Suite is required.

Programming: Interns will work within the Arts in Education program, Elder Care Concert Series program, and the upcoming Artown program. Interns will conduct, produce, and evaluate programs that help audiences of all ages and backgrounds interact with education and contemporary art. Additional projects may include: producing graphics, photography, signage, and advertising. Administrative tasks include: sending emails, updating databases, emailing confirmations and evaluations, and writing biographies. Interested applicants should have strong writing skills, experience with Microsoft Excel and Word, and feel comfortable talking on the phone.

School Credit: It is the responsibility of applicants to retrieve information from their school concerning possible academic credit. We can facilitate by providing evaluations and recommendations to ensure the completion of the internship. We recommend all applicants set up a 3-credit internship with their college or university. This is an unpaid internship.

Internships begin on January 25, 2016 and conclude on May 15, 2016.

Development Internship 

Sierra Arts Foundation (SAF) is seeking a spring intern to work within Development, two days per week.Interns will work with the Development Associate and learn about fundraising and grant writing for a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts agency. Grants Writing Intern will develop a hands-on knowledge of how to develop a grant project from inception to completion.

Requirements: Applicants must be a junior or senior studying at either a college or university and have a strong interest in grant writing. Applicants should be highly organized and have excellent writing and research skills. Good organizational, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and follow-through skills. Interested applicants should have experience working on both PC and Mac platforms, and feel comfortable talking on the phone.

Educational Experience:

  •         Learn how to research and identify likely sources of funding.
  •         Learn how to develop and write grant proposals.
  •         Develop familiarity with the nonprofit model and with the field of foundations.
  •         Learn how to follow up with additional information requested by funding sources.

Gallery Internship 

Sierra Arts Foundation (SAF) is seeking a spring intern to work within Gallery Management, two days per week. Sierra Arts is the local arts agency for Northern Nevada and northeastern California, dedicated to educating, nurturing, and supporting the arts through presenting cultural events, promoting best practices in arts education, advocating for art in public places, and developing other arts programs as needs arise in our community. We provide meaningful employment to artists, as they work with underserved populations including children, elders, adjudicated youth, and incarcerated adults. Sierra Arts leads our community in assessing the cultural needs of our region, and developing new programs that make this a better place in which to live.

Duties

  • Market exhibitions on social media and other outlets.
  • Produce promotional materials.
  • Install and disassemble the gallery space.
  • Ensure events run smoothly.
  • Assist in monthly artist receptions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • An interest or experience in running a gallery.
  • Effective social media skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Interested in the arts.
