May 20th – Steve Gehrke: Writing About Illness

The author will read a selection of poetry and discuss the theoretical and craft issues that arise when writing about illness on May 20 at 6:00pm. The lecture will be followed by a short question and answer.

Steve Gehrke teaches in the English Department at the University of Nevada- Reno. He has published three books of poetry, most recently Michelangelo’s Seizure (Illinois, 2007) which was selected for the National Poetry Series. His other books are The Pyramids of Malpighi (Anhinga Press, 2004), winner of the Philip Levine Prize, and The Ressurection Machine (BkMk Press, 2000), selected for the John Ciardi Prize. His other awards include grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nevada Arts Council. Poems from a new manuscript have appeared at Poetry, The Kenyon Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, The Missouri Review, AGNI and many others.
